Loft Conversion FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find out if my loft can be converted?

2.2m is the minimum height requirement (from the floor to the highest point in your loft) for a loft conversion to be viable option. It is still possible to convert if you have less room than this however it would usually involve lowering the ceilings on your first floor.

How do I obtain a quote?

There are several ways we are able to help with this, either by phoning the office number, completing the online enquiry form or clicking on the video consultation button. We carry out initial video meetings to go through the project in more detail and this will enable us to provide a full itemised quotation.

How much does a Horizon Loft conversion cost?

The cost is largely determined by the size of the project, what features you would like etc. We will help you achieve the best use of your space for your budget. Our quotes are fully itemised and fixed, allowing you full control over your budget. If we make a saving on an item, we are able to pass that saving onto you. Our quote covers all stages from design to completion.

How long will my loft conversion take to build?

Our loft conversions typically take between 6 and 8 weeks to completely finish. When we discuss your project we will be able to give you a more accurate timescale to work to.

What areas do Horizon Lofts cover?

We cover the South East of England and Yorkshire with offices in Surrey & North Yorkshire. Some of the key areas we cover are York, Leeds, Harrogate, Oxford, Weybridge, Walton on Thames, Chertsey, Chobham and Twickenham, as well as many more locations in Hampshire & Berkshire.

Can I view a completed conversion?

Of course! We are lucky that our many happy clients are thrilled to show people around their new space. We will always try to arrange a visit to a home with a similar loft conversion to that of your requirements. Our gallery also shows a variety of our complete loft conversions.

Will my conversion be subject to building regulations?

All loft conversions require building regulation approval from the local authority. These regulations ensure safety measures are in place and set a standard of construction and design.

Will I need Planning Permission?

Horizon Lofts usually fall under the permitted development category so planning permission will not normally be required. However there are some exceptions where planning permission will need to be sought for example if you live in a listed building or a conservation area, or your conversion is over a certain size. You do not need to worry about this as we will guide you through the whole process.

Can I use my own plans?

Of course, we want to work with you to achieve your perfect new living space.

Will the work be fully supervised?

At Horizon Lofts our teams are highly skilled and experienced and need little supervision. Our boys know what they're doing! A company director comes to visit each job several times during a build to ensure that our high standard is being continued and to address any questions or queries you may have.

Is the work that you do insured?
